A Message from the Chamber Director
The Clive business community shares a rich history of entrepreneurial spirit and ingenuity that spans over a century and continues to grow and thrive today. Beginning with a simple railway depot and one-room general store/post office to home grown local businesses such as Ethel Reames’ Frozen Noodles (now Marzetti Foods) Clive has become a dynamic marketplace. Our businesses benefit from Clive’s centralized location and easy access provided by two major Interstates and several main transportation corridors including University
Avenue, Hickman Road and 86th Street, the focus of a recent massive redevelopment project. The Clive Chamber of Commerce is eager to build upon this success by offering programs and services which will continue to make Clive the place to live, work, shop and play.
The Chamber of Commerce is pleased to work with a variety of community partners to promote Clive. The annual Clive Festival, a three-day community celebration is held outdoors in June and includes a parade, carnival, live music, fireworks display and much more. As a founding partner in this event, the Chamber of Commerce has a long and proud history with the Clive Festival. The Festival Committee, which is responsible for the coordination of this event, is composed of numerous local groups including the Chamber, Lions Club, Clive
Jaycees and Good Ideas Club to name a few and includes a number of dedicated community volunteers who donate countless hours of their time and talents to ensure this event is a success each year.
The Chamber also teams up with the Clive Historical Society each December to provide a Holiday Open House event at the Swanson Historical House. More than 100 community, Chamber and Historical Society members attended this year’s event during which the Chamber unveiled its new office space within the Swanson House. The Chamber appreciates the strong partnership they enjoy with the Historical Society and encourages residents and local business people to visit our new space at 8641 Swanson Boulevard (515-222-5295) and take a look around the beautifully preserved Swanson General Store. The pairing of the Historical Society and Chamber offices under one roof provides an excellent example of Clive’s ability to maintain a healthy respect for its past while developing a keen vision for the future through the Chamber’s work and support of the local business community.
This Clive Residential Guide and Chamber Business Directory is another excellent example of two local entities working together to promote the Clive community. The City of Clive offers a wide array of services and expertise within each department with a special emphasis on customer service at every level. Clive maintains one of the lowest tax bases within the Des Moines region due to the diligent efforts of our elected City officials and staff. The Chamber is honored to present this Business Directory of its 71 members. These businesses understand the importance of creating a strong identity for the business community, expanding and enhancing the local economy and are dedicated to the growth of the Clive commercial corridor.
Please take a moment to review the Clive Chamber online Membership Directory and make an effort to support these local businesses. They, along with the Clive Chamber of Commerce, continue to work very hard to maintain the type of high standards that keep Clive healthy and thriving. They deserve your patronage, so make an effort to shop locally and get to know your local businesses, retailers and service providers. Working together, we can make Clive a stronger community today and, more importantly, ensure its success for the future.
